How it works

Simple to understand.
Genuinely transparent.

The scheme is designed to be straightforward for everyone — the customer, the business, and the forest.

01

Look for the mark

When a product carries the 2% sticker, it means that item is part of the scheme. Not every product from a business will carry the mark — only those the business has chosen to include.

02

2% goes to a cause

2% of that product's sale price is donated to a local group, charity, or organisation working in or for the New Forest. A summary of how the donation was calculated is published in the directory each year.

03

Their choice, their cause

Each business selects its own recipient — a wildlife trust, a commoners' association, a land conservation project, a community group. Whatever they care most about.

You can see which cause each member has chosen in the directory.

04

Verified every year

The business's accountant reviews all sales in scope, confirms the 2% was calculated correctly, and confirms the donation was made. They produce a public summary document — published in the directory — alongside a private document confirming the total amount.

Donation amounts remain private. The recipient name and the accountant's summary are public.

Questions

Good to know.

Everything a customer might want to understand about the mark.

Each member's accountant signs a document each year confirming that the 2% was calculated correctly and the donation was made. That document is published in our directory. You can check it yourself.

The business does. They choose their own recipient — as long as it benefits the New Forest or its inhabitants. Most businesses decide at the end of their year, once they have their sales figures, and document it as part of their accountant verification. You can see where each member's donation went in the directory once their year is complete.

Not necessarily. A business can choose which of their products carry the sticker. Only products with the physical mark on them are required to be in the 2% calculation, but they could include others. A company can simply list all services or products covered if they wish.

No. The 2% comes out of the sale price — it is the business's contribution, not an extra charge to you. You pay the same price you would anyway.

Anything that genuinely benefits the New Forest or the people, animals, and communities who depend on it — wildlife trusts, conservation charities, commoners' associations, land management projects, community groups, and similar organisations. The money stays local and relevant.

The scheme was founded by The Burley Trading Co Ltd, who cover all central administration costs — so none of the 2% from any member goes towards running the scheme. It all reaches the chosen cause.
